Chalcogenide coatings are used to reduce adhesion of solid dust to air handling parts like blower. These coatings reduce the coefficient of friction of the coated surfaces and inhibit the adhesion of dust from preheated air. 

Chalcogenide coatings are impregnated into metallic surfaces to reduce the coefficient of friction. The friction reduction reduces the surface bonding energy of the surfaces. When blowers handle air laden with dust, Chalcogenide coating results in less dust sticking to the metallic surfaces  - specially on the suction side.

The coatings can operate at higher temperatures typically up to 750 deg C.
